Narrating Architecture
Domus Academy may be the sole design school in the world to have a writer and not a designer serving as director, and this being totally consistent with its heritage of trans-boundaries disciplinary crossings, Gianluigi Ricuperati will hold a week of workshops and seminars and tests entirely devoted to the idea that writing and rhetorics are primary tools too often forgotten in the realm of the actual, which is architecture.
Potential literature, basic rhetorical skills, storytelling basics, spatial scuba-diving into great novels, drawing spaces, design lives, inter-disciplinary translations, flatlandias and inner spaces, extreme metaphors & principia oratoria. These are some of the themes explored by teachers such as world translated novelists, as Adam Thirlwell, new exciting Italian writers as Francesco Pacifico and Chiara Valerio, M.I.T. lit/Arch. explorer Matthew Claudel, New Yorker/New York Times artist and illustrater Matteo Pericoli, world class designer Patricia Urquiola.
