Finding the lost skyline:Gjirokastra, the demolition and transformation of religious buildings during the 70’s
The Project consists in the virtual restitution of the historical skyline of the UNESCO city of Gjirokastra, alienated during the communist regime through the radical transformation or destruction of the religious buildings.
This was a phenomenon spread in all the Albanian territory and related to the Cultural Revolution that aimed to eliminate the religious symbols in order to make citizens atheists and believers only to communism and its philosophy.
The project intends to restore and transmit to new generations the historical image of the city, reconstructed through archival sources but primarily through the memory of the elderly.
